Angelina Jolie will be directing a new film called Africa. It’s a biopic following Richard Leakey during his crusades against Elephant Poaching in the 1980s. “I’ve felt a deep connection to Africa and its culture for much of my life, and was taken with Eric Roth’s beautiful script about a man drawn into the violent conflict with elephant poachers who emerged with a deeper understanding of man’s footprint and a profound sense of responsibility for the world around him,” Angelina Jolie said. Interestingly enough, she is in talks with her husband Brad Pitt to star in the movie was Richard Leakey. They most recently worked on a movie together that she directed called By The Sea, however, Angelina Jolie may not actually appear in Africa. It is very exciting to see Angelina Jolie, such an incredible actress, displaying her directing talent. She is an incredibly talented person and I am excited to see what she makes of Africa, hopefully with her husband starring in the film.
Richard Leakey is a Kenyan politician who, in the 1980s, was put in charge of conservation for the country. He was known for his incredibly bold steps for anti-poaching such as forming an armed guard with approval to shoot poachers on sight because of the trouble they have caused. While controversial, it appeared to work, causing a significant reduction in poaching in Kenya. So much so that he was granted $140 million by the World Bank. He also made headlines when he was involved in the destruction of a massive stash of ivory that was found.
