The Bubble Runner wants to make it from FL to Bermuda!

Bubble Man

Have you guys heard about (what I like to call) “The Bubble Runner?” Last year there was a marathon runner (Reza Baluchi) who wanted to attempt to run from Florida to Bermuda in a bubble. His official website details his dreams:

“Reza Baluchi has a dream to run thru all 194 recognized countries in the world to inspire us and unite us as a people. His dream is to share the lives of people around the world with complete transparency. He will broadcast the experience with a live camera and create a film. Stories of the human spirit and culture shall be told thru the eyes of our children as students. When Reza meets with children in our schools he asks that before his departure that we plant a tree together in his honor to remind you that we all come from the same roots. He will also ask for an endorsement from our leaders of each voluntary country in an effort to collaborate efforts for the betterment of all people. Working together for a strong foundation of purpose with transparency we will show the world that anything is possible!”

The bubble is human-powered. There’s nothing comfortable about it, being in a bubble over the ocean would cause humidity and he would get really hot but he’s determined and I don’t think he’s going to back down any-time soon.

It was just in 2014 when he attempted the goal and a Coast Guard encountered Baluchi and reported him as disoriented and asking for directions to Bermuda. And he described what he saw as a “hydro pod bubble,” that would move as Baluchi ran inside.

And he’s at it again two years later but everything has come to a halt after a Coast Guard spotted him again. According to the Coast Guard on Twitter Baluchi voluntarily ended the trip—he had already been at sea for five months!

Wow. That’s some major bravery! Here are some cool facts that his website detailed.

Plans to complete the trip:

“Everyone wants to know how Reza Baluchi will be successful in his travel to through the Bermuda triangle. Reza is so confident that he will succeed in this trip because he has carefully articulated every detail it takes to survive. In the years 2010-2012 he survived the dangers of Death Valley, by carefully planning where he would obtain water and rest for the night. By going through this experience, this is when the idea of traveling through the Bermuda Triangle was born. He spent his time running through 120 degree weather on a daily basis and it was no bother to him. We also have to remember that Miami, Fl. Is very hot, humid and tropical. Being inside the Hydro Pod is not going to be a walk in the park, it will be very hot and humid. One can easily dehydrate quickly and lose breath. Reza has devised this Hydro Pod to prevent physical difficulties. But not anyone can use without being mentally and physically fit. Being mentally fit is the main component to be able to survive a long journey in the Hydro Pod.

Some facts to know about this trip:

The distance between Miami, Fl to Bermuda is approximately 1,033 miles one way.
The Hydro Pod is made of 3mm thick of plastic.
Inside the Hydro Pod is will reach up 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
Reza is an excellent fisherman and he will be catching his food on a daily basis. There be will some days that he will not be able to catch fish. So he will he survive on his own made up protein bars.
He will need to manually pump his Hydro Pod for one hour to ensure that it will stay afloat.
At night the Hydro Pod will have a light emitting from the bottom to help with the travel.
Reza will rest in the early hours of the morning when the sea is calmest
On a daily basis 400,000 ships sail through the Bermuda without harm or loss
The frame is designed by Mr. Reza Baluchi.
A typical day will be, Reza will be sleeping from 6am-9am, will wake up to start running until his body becomes too hot, he will then jump into the sea to cool himself off with a leash strapped to his leg connected to the bubble.

He will sleep on a hammock that will be inside the bubble.
He will have tracking device on him so that his team is aware of his position at all times.

Why is he doing this?

Reza is doing this dangerous journey to raise money for children in need and to give inspire those that have lost hope for a better future. Also to raise awareness for his Non-Profit Organization called Plant Unity. Plant Unity is a charity devoted to kids that are in need of basic living necessities. For example, clothes, medical and financial help and also to teach them healthy living skills. Plant Unity slogan is “Children are like roots of a tree – I like to nourish the roots and help them grow.”

In 2013 Reza tested his Hydro Pod by taking out from Newport Beach to Catalina Island and it was a great success. It took approximately 12 hours and 33 miles one way. He lost 15 pounds from all the humidity and sweat that was exuded on this trip. Everything went as planned no complications were reported.

A little history about the tales of Bermuda, also known as the Devil’s triangle, is a region in the western part of the North Atlantic it is an imaginary line drawn from Miami to Bermuda to Puerto Rico, in which a number of aircraft and surface vessels are alleged to have mysteriously disappeared in a manner that can not be explained by human error, piracy, equipment failure, or natural disasters. Popular culture has attributed these disappearances to the paranormal activity. The disappearances have mostly taken place near the southern boundary of the triangle between Florida and Puerto Rico. That area of the triangle is the widest, therefore anything can happen. This is one of the amazing and popular stories of a plane that has disappeared while crossing the triangle. Flight 19- The avenger planes of Flight 19 took off from the US Naval base of Florida for a routine training session on an afternoon of December 5th 1945, but strangely this time it never returned.

Survivalists, Reza Baluchi will be going on a perilous journey to Bermuda. Reza Baluchi is notorious for his running achievements throughout the world. He has been to 55 different countries and has conquered every life threatening obstacle that Mother Nature presents on land. He knows what it takes to survive on land with the bare minimum. But the question is can he survive or even compete with the treacherous quest, from Miami to Bermuda? He loves running so much that he got bored of running on land and now wants to take this challenge. He has designed what he calls “the Hydro Pod” a device that will enable him to run across the sea. Reza is aware of the accidents that could happen to him including death. The Bermuda Triangle is one of the deadliest stretches of ocean on Earth. Call him “crazy” but likes to roll the dice. Join us as we watch from a distance, Reza take on the Pacific Ocean’s deadliest enigma, a quest that will take us over, on and deep in the depths of what is called “the deep blue graveyard, the Devil’s Sea”!!!”
