Georgia couple have wedding by hospital bedside and it’s heart warming!

How inspiring… There was a Georgia bride who decided that she was going to have her wedding a month early because she received news that her father wouldn’t be alive to ‘give her away,’ in a month for the original wedding date.

Candice Hammonds and Thomas Burkett were prepping to have their wedding on October 1, 2016. But the plans changed because her father (Steve) received some bad news from his providers and his health took a turn for the worse.

The Staff from Upson Regional Medical Center in Thomaston, Georgia helped by allowing them to use a room in “OutPatient ,” surgery area for the bedside wedding that took place earlier (September 5, 2016) this morning.

Teresa Hammonds opened up to Atlanta Channel 2 Action News about the wedding. She said:

“People started pulling things together to make this wedding take place in 24 hours.”

And boy did they make it happen because her father (Steve) was able to watch her at his bedside, standing proud in a beautiful flowing white gown and sparkling headpiece smile because today she was going to be spending the rest of her life with the man she loves.

And when the pastor asked who would be giving her away, her father (Steve) raised his hand into the air.

Teresa Hammonds felt it was a very ‘special gift.’ She said:

“It was the gift he could give his little girl.”

And I couldn’t agree with that statement anymore than I do at this very moment. Julie (a photographer) opened up on Facebook after sharing some photographs that she took on her official Facebook page. And what she had to say was heart-warming. She captioned the photos:

“Tuesday evening, I was contacted by a very dear friend and client asking me if I was available for a wedding Thursday evening. Once Alicia explained to me, what was going on, there was no way in my heart I could have turned it down.

Weddings are emotional for me. I am a softy at heart. But this wedding, I am tearing up as I type this.
Every girl dreams of her daddy walking her down the isle and giving her hand away. Given the circumstances, Candice’s daddy was still able to do just that!

I don’t think I have ever experienced so much love and emotion in one room. The way that this family came together in such short time for this bedside wedding amazed me!

A huge shout out to my sweet friend Alicia Etters Maddox – you did an amazing job (I am considering referring some of my brides to you for day of planning 😉 ) And a huge shout out to URMC for allowing this to take place in ICU and giving Candice her own little ‘bridal suite’ in Ambulatory care.Screen Shot 2016-09-05 at 7.05.55 PM

And we even did a ‘first look’ outside the ICU waiting room!!

Congratulations Thomas & Candice. I am so grateful and humbled that I was able to document such a special time in your lives <3

Also sending lots of prayers your way for you father!!!”

That is the sweetest story I’ve read so far this week. How amazing is that? What do you guys think about this adorable bedside wedding? Let us know in the comments below. (Life might work in mysterious ways and it might not always be perfect but people sure do make this life worth the fight).

Blessed be.
