Ben Affleck talks his new film and children. Check it out!
Ben Affleck is a man of many wonderful personalities and he’s always willing to go above and beyond in his life. Whether its career or family, he puts all his heart and love into making sure that things are going according to plan. And we’re pretty sure he’s doing things right because this Oscar-winning actor might work in hollywood, it doesn’t mean that his children have seen any of his films.
Why? Well because they can’t yet and that’s a choice that Ben Affleck has made for the best interest of his children. During a press conference for highly anticipated new film “The Accountant,” he was asked by his children “When do you do a movie we can see?” Affleck told the reporters and continued. “You can see this when you’re 25.”
The Accountant is an R-rated film where Ben Affleck plays an accountant (Chris) who is a math genius and has some amazing skills but he seems to be on the autism spectrum. Chris’s background was strict growing up, he had a father who was physical and always wanted his sons to fight, if they had confrontation with conflict.
Ben opened up saying that this fictional parenting was enough for him to know right away “The Accountant,” wouldn’t be a good film for his children to watch. He said:
“That’s what I thought was the most heartbreaking thing about the story and it was definitely moving to me as a parent,” Affleck stated. “I face dilemmas that we all do everyday about what’s the right way to raise children, what’s the right thing to teach them? Every moment there comes a crossroad.” He stated.
“When you have kids, what’s that expression, ‘Your heart is outside your body,’ all of the sudden you feel so vulnerable and this fear of a child being vulnerable is very powerful,” he said. “I can see why it made for a really interesting character in the father. Here’s a guy out of love and compassion and fear for his son, actually ends up kind of brutalizing him and abusing him and it’s a really interesting look at what’s the appropriate way to channel the intense emotions we have as parents, it’s not easy.”
And we honestly love the way Ben Affleck raises his children. It’s better for them to see good role-modeling and (let’s be honest) hollywood films are not always ideal (and yes I know this is life and that in life you can’t always shield your children from bad things in the world). But a child doesn’t need to see these things at such a young age, planting those types of thoughts as seeds at such a young age would discourage me as a parent as well.
