Kanye West’s mental health isn’t a joke.
Kanye West has been going through some trying times over the last few weeks. And people have been pretty disrespectful. Media outlets have taken it upon themselves to write discouraging articles (which they should be ashamed of themselves) and others have taken to social media to voice their negative jokes about Kanye West and his current situation.
All I have to say about that is stop because everybody goes through mental health issues in their life. Life has so many stages and we all experience them at different times. Whether it be in your teens, adulthood or later in life, we will all eventually go through a time in our lives when things don’t feel ‘as they should,’ and we lose faith but going through these emotions is completely normal.
Why is mental health so important? First we have to understand that mental health is just as important as your physical health. What happens when you start experiencing cold or flu symptoms? Well, most people want to treat the cause so they can begin to feel better. They turn to Vitamin C supplements, cough drops and lots of bed rest. But have you ever stopped to think how important your mental health is to treat? Life comes with a lot of stress and that can sometimes cause some mental set backs and it’s nothing to be ashamed of because 1 in every 4 adults in the United States show symptoms of having a mental illness. And these people usually don’t seek treatment.
There have been multiple studies conducted which prove it’s just as vital to take care of your mental health as well as your physical health. Did you know that keeping up with your mental health can help your physical health? And having a healthy mind can also help you with other aspects of your life, including decision-making, communicating and your relationships.
Now, keeping that in mind, I challenge you all to send nothing but words of encouragement to those who may be facing mental health issues. It can be tiring and when you don’t have people who believe in you, it makes it that much harder.
Lady Gaga even voiced her concerns about those making jokes about Kanye West and his health. She said:
“It’s not funny to joke about anyone’s possible or not possible mental illness, this is a sensitive time for many. Let’s be kind & loving. While I don’t agree with everything he does I hope the public shows compassion and <3 for @kanyewest and each other. One love. One Race. I support & love u brother, I see in you bravery & courage to stop this tour & take care of YOU. You are a GREAT artist.”
Don’t you think she is right? It’s absolutely a sensitive time for Kanye West and Kim Kardashian. We are supposed to be kind and loving and while he might not be your favorite person, that’s fine but that doesn’t mean you need to flood social media with hate.
We should be learning from other people and their experiences in life. And we should always be sending love their way. I challenge you all to think about this in a more positive light and always be considerate of other people because you never know what they could be going through in life.
