Zac Efron gives us self-image advice and it’s inspiring!
What do you think of when you hear the name Zac Efron? Maybe you imagine a muscular body and his perfect hair and smile. But there’s more to Zac than just his good looks and talent in acting.
Zac Efron used to have a hard time staying off Google and not caring what people thought of him online. It was just this year in 2016 when he opened up to ELLE magazine about his life and how it’s evolved since he found structured. He wanted to inspire who are having a hard time with the way they view themselves. He said:
“What I found is structure. That led me to a balance of opposites: You get out of life what you put in. There was a moment when my morning routine was, like, Get up and Google yourself. But that stopped, dramatically and instantly, probably three years ago. I realized that viewing yourself through other people’s pictures is not living your own life. I wasn’t really being myself. A lot of my hobbies had gone out the window. I couldn’t skateboard or surf for fear of being followed. Crossing the line of fear is what leads to greatness.”
Isn’t that true? You really do get out of life what you put into life. (And I’m a strong believer in ‘What goes around comes around’). If you spend your time thinking positive and never saying ‘I can’t,’ there’s no way you can fail. The only time you fail is when you allow the thoughts of others to consume you to the point that it’s taking away from your quality of life. This is when you need to stand up and make a change. You shouldn’t be viewing yourself through other people’s eyes because the truth is, not everyone is going to like you in life. You can please the world but you can love yourself.
Zac expressed the challenge of the press and how they effected his life as well. He said:
“Whether you’re going to an event where you’re supposed to be out… there will be press there, if you’re leaving your house to go to the grocery store, there will be press there. It can be everywhere and it can be confusing. You spend a lot of time in your house, going crazy and pretty soon you need a social lubricant. And once I needed that, it became to go anywhere … I just really want to never again have to take anything from the outside into me to feel good about my outside, to be comfortable in my present skin.”
So, next time you feel like you aren’t good enough remember that everyone in the world has felt this way and you’re not alone. There’s so much to live for and your unique personality adds spice to the world around you. You are important, you do have worth and you’re perfect just the way you are, now at this very moment. And there are always changes you can make to better your situation in life. Stay strong and never forget how important you are to those around you.
