Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift are speaking up about guns! Check it out!
Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift are speaking up about guns. And it’s not often the two will make any political statements (truthfully, it’s a subject that causes so much internet drama, we don’t blame them for one minute) but in this case, lives are being lost and they couldn’t stay silent in the storm of recently mass shootings.
Selena Gomez can relate to the subject on a very personal level. She lost one of her best friends Christina Grimmie (June 10, 2016). And has watched threats come through to talent and their events often over the years.
Six months after 22 people were killed in the ISIS-claimed explosion at Ariana Grande’s Manchester show, police arrested a teenager who threatened to attack Justin Bieber’s fans in a Wales performance. Using her platform to speak up is important and means a lot. No more lives should be lost. She uploaded a picture to Instagram and made her point clear as day. She wrote:
“@Selenagomez Protect kids, not guns! #MarchForOurLives”
And Taylor Swift opened up as well. She uploaded the same image and left a longer statement. She wrote:
“@Taylorswift No one should have to go to school in fear of gun violence. Or to a nightclub.
Or to a concert. Or to a movie theater. Or to their place of worship. I’ve made a donation to show my support for the students, for the March For Our Lives campaign, for everyone affected by these tragedies, and to support gun reform. I’m so moved by the Parkland High School students, faculty, by all families and friends of victims who have spoken out, trying to prevent this from happening again.”
The statements are genuine and we appreciate them speaking up regarding their thoughts on gun violence, although, it has not been confirmed whether they will be marching against gun violence. But we do know one fact for sure, they care about the future of this country.
How have you felt about the recent debates regarding guns and stricter enforcement? (Many of you may remember that I lost a friend in the Las Vegas shooting and that has not gotten easier. I am not for banning buns but I do support stricter laws). Let us know what you think about banning guns in the comments below. And don’t forget to stay positive, the negativity in the world is shining and it’s our job (together) to make sure we can continue to bring a positive light into the world, even through disagreements.
We as individuals have the right to have different opinions but what separates us is being able to “agree to disagree,” and be kind to one another.
