The reason I’m selling my vintage Pokemon Cards.
Being raw is all I have left these days, and the words still ring clearly in my head, “death is the only cure,” a nurse once told me for a patient who had a condition in which there was a lot of quality life suffering, and many hospital visits.
Although, many times I believe that is true, and I dislike my body for what has happened, I have had to find ways to humble myself and allow myself to understand that EVERYBODY eventually gets sick, and we all have to take care of ourselves differently, and the cost can also vary greatly, especially in the medical field.
Right now, I have insurance but soon I will not, as we are divorcing (my ex-husband and I). That alone has made things much more difficult for my Crohn’s disease.
Truthfully, I have been absolutely embarrassed to have to do this again, as I’ve done it a couple times to make payments for other procedures.
Now, my doctor who was taking care of me retired, and all of the GI’s I visit, insist that “the notes are not to their liking,” and he went on to explain that each doctor has their own “signature,” when looking for disease activity.
I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in 2016/2017. I remember in January of 2016, I visited the instacare 12 times due to 21+ time bouts of toilet visits, obviously blood, and pain that was relentless, but to be honest, the stomach pain is nothing in comparison to pooping 21+ times and it being bile, which burns, and also can cause hemorrhoids.
Right now, I am currently on Stelara, (Humira stopped working, and so did the chemo medication called Azathioprine, which put me in the ER for attacking my liver.
Can you imagine my reaction every time I was given medication and then ended up sick and in the ER because I happen to be “one of the more sensitive,” patients to chemo medications.
Wonderful, long story short, this is embarrassing for me, but someone in my Marketplace (where I sell Pokemon TCG cards in order to help make my co-pays, visit pays, as well as any procedures they want to move forward with, and now this is what’s going on and why I’ve humbly decided to ask for help.
Over the last 2-months, I have been paying off my $1400 dollar bill. I sell a pack, I pay $20.00 if the pack was that much, I allocate to my bills as promised when doing anything to help my quality of life.
As you can see in the paper, they are still trying to make my life worse as though I didn’t make payments, which there are pics of proof of payments as well. I am trying, and doing my best and they do nothing about it.
In order to do the procedure I have next, this has to be paid off, and then my insurance told me to expect 3 different bills, one from the person that makes you go to sleep during the exam, the exam, and any IV fluids they have given me.
The last colonoscopy was “basic,” and honestly unneeded if he was planning to make me swallow this pill camera.
What is a Pill Camera and why is it needed for Crohn’s disease?
Capsule endoscopy overview:
A capsule endoscopy is a pill similar to a vitamin pill you would swallow but built inside this pill will be a tiny camera that will travel the entire length of your gastrointestinal tract, taking close to 50,000 pictures while going through. Some will be designed for the intestines, while others may be specifically designed for the colon or esophagus. Dr. Havranek, a board-certified gastroenterologist, says it’s equivalent of a high-definition video of your smaller intestines. While the pill travels through and takes these pictures, it will emit radio waves to a smaller device that’s worn on your wrist, similar to something such as a Fitbit. Eventually, it will be naturally in your stool and can be flushed away since the doctor won’t ask for it back.
During the exam, you will wear a receiver around your waist or you may have to wear adhesive patches before you swallow the capsule.
The entire process at the doctor’s office will take less than 20 minutes, and the pill will take about eight to 10 hours to travel through your intestines.
The doctor will usually ask for you to come for an appointment in the morning and return later in the afternoon to retrieve the receiver to download the images to a computer. The report will be evaluated and could take a few days to receive your results.
This capsule will be used to diagnose problems such as anemia, abdominal pain, blood in the stool, locating cancers or diagnosing Crohn’s disease.”
What is the cost of capsule endoscopy?
“The price of capsule endoscopy depends on the doctor performing the procedure, the inclusions, geographical location and complexity of the job.
How much does a video capsule endoscopy cost?
On average, a capsule endoscopy can cost anywhere from $900 to $2,625 without insurance. The capsule alone costs anywhere from $600 to $1,300.”
The cost for the capsule endoscopy in Utah:
Unfortunately, I have DMBA, which has a link where you can even look up this procedure, and if you’d like proof of my last one, just ask, it’s embarrassing but it’s okay as there are too many scams out there and I understand.
My total cost for the procedure and other 2 bills came out to $2200 because my retired doctor also did a “double balloon endoscopy,” to get in there and make sure there weren’t any inflammatory polyps.
So, regardless of your donation, I’m eternally grateful, and if you will send me your address, I will send you pokemon cards, every donation gets pokemon cards, please let me feel like I’ve done something good.
At the end of the day, I’m 32-years-old, I’ve started this new life and I’m trying to get my quality of life back so I can take a hike, go for a walk or a long drive, without that fear of…. Not making it to the bathroom.
Thankfully, it hasn’t happened yet. Pray for me ya’ll that would feel so, so, sad as I’m too young for bowel control issues, that’s why all of this needs to get done.
Although, I can’t get it done if I can’t pay and he just tells me to “watch, wait and worry,” until I’m ready, it’s almost like being told no.
I’ve had 8 different GI’s from the start of 2015 (when things went downhill) to present. And they all want the same thing, I feel it’s time to change medications as well.
Here’s the last part that is important, abbvie (medication dispatch company) allows agreements to help with patients shots because for those of us who have ANY AUTOIMMUNE disease, we need weekly, monthly, bi-monthly, and even infusions of our medication.
What is the cost of your medication?
Good RX is connected to the pharmacy I go too but you’re welcome to look it up yourself as well.
And while many manufacturers offer programs that will reduce your out-of-pocket costs for this prescription. These programs are free but may have some rules or restrictions, so you’ll want to review carefully.
But when you’re in the middle of a divorce the paperwork they send is impossible to accurately fill out, so that’s waiting on finalization.
“Prices as low as $24,714.77” This is per shot, so every 30 days, I once gave myself a shot that hit an artery and I lost all my medication, they had to bill me again, that felt awful to watch 15K (humira) drip down your leg.
What do I need at this moment, in this present time to help me get quality of life back, my activities of daily living, self esteem and all?
Right now, I’m humbling asking for any donations, and every single one will get a pack of pokemon cards between 1995-2021.
As mentioned, I sell on Marketplace but I guess I just really feel so broken and defeated I’ll ask, I’ll write you articles, I’ll do something you need as well.
I love work, and miss it, so this all helps.
Thanks for understanding why I’m reaching out, thank you for being so loving to us.
And thank you to everyone who has randomly donated to our Venmo, Cashapp and Paypal, it makes me happy you still got your cards as thank you <3
The goal is 2800 by May 23, 2022.
Again, I have saved for it so the new total as of 3/20/2022 @ 5:45 PM is $2220 not including medication or anything else, just the procedure “capsule endoscopy.”
Praying I don’t need surgery and the camera doesn’t get stuck.
